Phillies Buy Out Two Starters
The Philadelphia Phillies let their starting catcher and third-basemen walk today, declining the options on both Rod Barajas and Abraham Nunez. The move cost Philadelphia $900k to buy out the contracts.
Barajas had a decent season catching for the Phillies, hitting .230 with 4HR and 10RBI in only 48 games played. Injuries really hurt his career in Philly, as Carlos Ruiz has easily taken his roll for the next decade. On Nunez's part, it was simply the fact that he couldn't hit in two seasons with the club. In an astonishing 136 games, Abraham hit .236 with 0HR and 16RBI. He also only collected 11 extra base hits in the entire season. Quite pathetic numbers, especially as Wes Helms could of done much better with the 136 games Nunez was granted.
