White Sox Acquire Carlos Quentin, Ship Chris Carter
The Chicago White-Sox have acquired powerful 25-year old right fielder Carlos Quentin from the Arizona Diamondbacks in return for star-studded first-base prospect Chris Carter. Quentin had a tremendous 2006, blasting 25 home runs, but struggled in 2007 and lost the job to super-prospect Justin Upton. Quentin has the ability to hit 30 home-runs if given enough at-bats, but hasn't showed enough contact to stay in the majors.
As for Carter, the 20-year old hit .291 with 25 HR and 93 RBI in 467 at-bats with Single-A Kannapolis. Baseball Prospectus' Kevin Goldstein gives us the story on Chris Carter: Goldstein believes he's a "true slugger with tremendous strength and power to all fields" but notes that his defense is quite horrific.
