Agent Jaime Torres has told ESPN that one of his clients, Alexei Ramirez, has indeed defected from Cuba and is filing for residency in the Dominican Republic. Ramirez led the Cuban league in home-runs this season and played in the Pan American games. He plays both SS and CF and is only 26 years old.
Torres makes it clear that Alexei is major league ready and will make a team out of Spring Training. Looks like thats a lot of power coming over where teams like the Royals or Minnesota could use quite nicely.
