Carlos Guillen To Play 1B in '08

The Detroit Tigers and manager Jim Leyland have told the media that short-stop Carlos Guillen will indeed play 1B next season in order to keep his aging-lets healthy. After signing a 4-year $48M deal a few years ago, most believed it was quite a bargain for a hitter his caliber in the short-stop role. But now that he's moving to 1B, you gotta argue that he's getting paid exactly what he would be worth in an open market this season.

This also means that Sean Casey will not remain in Detroit and will have to sign with yet another team next season. The Tigers also don't have any good shortstop to put in Carlos' spot, so they might have to reach out to a Jack Wilson or Edgar Renteria possibility.
